Take a Trip to Transylvania

After all, this was the actual birthplace of the man who spawned the vampire legends, namely Vlad the Impaler. People who are planning a trip to Transylvania will find a lot to see and do in this enchanting eastern European city, although there are certain things that horror fans will want to make sure are at the very top of the list.

Transylvania is set in the country of Romania and the city served as the dramatic setting of Bram Stoker’s famous tale of Count Dracula. Although Transylvania is naturally much more modern than is depicted in the book, the city is surrounded by several tiny traditional villages where time almost seems to have stood still. These ancient villages feature several stunning chapels and churches and lucky visitors may even be treated to a spooky encounter.

No trip to Transylvania would be complete without paying a visit to Bran Castle, as this is the place where Count Dracula lived, according to lore. Bran Castle can be found on the outskirts of the enchanting medieval town of Brasov and was built in the 14th century to protect the town from invaders. Bran Castle sits at the top of a high hill in the middle of an eerie forest and features a large number of tall towers that look very menacing at both dawn and dusk.

Halloween is undoubtedly the perfect time to visit Transylvania and visitors are sure to get into the mood of this very spooky celebration. The local people really go all out at this time of year and there are lots of special celebrations, such as parades and other types of traditional events for visitors to enjoy.
